Fleetpin, Winner – Fieldays Online ‘Amazon Web Services Innovation in Data Award’

To say Covid-19 has thrown a few spanners in the works would be an understatement to the majority, and one among many areas that have taken a big hit this year is key industry events and show days that we all look forward to attending.

While we’re hyped up and counting down the weeks and days until the next show ‘since lockdown’ to kick off, we had no hesitations in showing our support and participating in the never-done-before Mystery Creek Fieldays ‘Online’.

What is typically a 144-hectare site and the largest agricultural event in the Southern Hemisphere, Mystery Creek Fieldays was quick to make the call on going ahead this year, only in a different format. Our participation at Fieldays Online was within the Innovation ‘Tent’, where we were given the opportunity to submit an entry into Fieldays Innovation Awards.

Given that Fleetpin’s focus throughout 2020 (before that and beyond) has been on acing technological advancements enabling us to be at the forefront in customer solution based developments, and identifying where there are gaps in the market, we thought why not share one of those stories! Afterall, being able to take feedback from customers or to spark an idea, then to actually follow through with it is (mostly) what gets us out of bed in the morning.

The so-called story and innovation we submitted shone the spotlight on our Rollover Safety System, a rollover warning and critical alerting system designed for quad bikes, side-by-sides and other farm vehicles.

Unfortunately, news stories and statistics surrounding the safety and mortality rate of quadbikes is plentiful. A recent article in the NZ Herald stated figures from the coronial service showed 99 people had been killed in quad bike incidents since 2007, with seven in 2018 alone.

For Fleetpin, creating a solution focused on incident prevention, false incident alarm prevention, and hands-on control of non-roll emergencies backed with research and development alongside one of New Zealand’s most prominent leaders in agriculture was twofold. While you can read more about our Rollover Safety System award submission here, we’re thrilled to have won the 2020 Amazon Web Services Innovation in Data Award!

For a small (and growing) local NZ business, a win like this is a big deal, and it’s an epic way for us to show our community that we’re committed to providing what our people need. Playing a small part in the safety of the farming community is the cherry on top.

Lastly, a huge shoutout must go to Fieldays Online for not only finding a way to proceed with this year’s event, but also for us to be able to showcase and share our innovation to the industry. We can’t wait to share more about our Rollover Safety System and other developments we have going on behind the scenes.

Stay tuned and thank you for your ongoing support!
